10 Shocking Cases of Female Predators
In 1975 Steven Spielberg terrified potential beach goers everywhere when the film Jaws hit the big screen. The mechanical shark devoured and killed everything in its path and ensured that sharks were given a bad name. Forty years on and we are still fascinated with sharks. From the comically terrible Sharknado movies to the Discovery Channel’s Shark Week specials, these underwater dwellers continue to capture our imaginations and either fascinate or terrify us. This is only heightened when we see news reports of giant sharks caught in the Pacific or watch video clips of surfers fighting off a prowling shark off the shoreline. Yes, our interest and fascination with these creatures is influenced a great deal by their violent portrayal in media and film as well as by our near total lack of knowledge concerning the life that exists below the surface of the water.
When asked about sharks, the vast majority will picture a more popular species such as the Great White or even a Hammerhead. Some may even think of the massive Megalodon – the gigantic shark that some people still think could exist. These are the all-stars of the shark world and, indeed, the Great White above all others seems to hog the headlines. What a lot of people don’t know is that there are many more species of sharks lurking below the surface of the world’s oceans. These fish can vary so much in size, color and form that you could be excused if you thought any of the following didn’t belong in the shark family.
